Uttar Pradesh Man Murders Wife and Daughters in Burqa Dispute, Refused Her Aadhaar Card to Hide Face

In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, a man named Farooq murdered his wife Tahira and two of their daughters following ongoing disputes over her wearing a burqa, police have revealed. The 32-year-old victim was not allowed to obtain an Aadhaar card or any other identity document during their 18-year marriage, as Farooq objected to her photograph being taken without the veil.

Farooq, a wedding cook by profession, reportedly flew into a rage after learning that Tahira had visited her parents’ home without donning the burqa. He also prohibited his father-in-law from meeting her during visits. The couple, who had five children—Afreen (14), Asmeen (10), Sehreen (7), Bilal (9), and Arshad (5)—frequently argued over household matters, with Tahira expressing a desire to manage the home independently.

According to police accounts , the killings occurred on the night of December 10. Farooq shot Tahira in the kitchen around midnight. When Afreen awoke to the sound and entered the room, he shot her as well. He then strangled Sehreen after she arrived at the scene. The bodies were buried in a nine-foot-deep pit intended for a toilet in the courtyard, which was subsequently covered with bricks.

The crime came to light after Tahira and the two girls had not been seen for six days. Farooq’s father, Dawood, grew suspicious when his son evaded questions and claimed the family was staying in a rented house in Shamli. Dawood alerted the police on Tuesday, leading to Farooq’s arrest and confession during interrogation.

Authorities recovered a pistol, seven empty shells, and 10 live cartridges based on the suspect’s statements. The incident highlights the tragic consequences of the couple’s prolonged conflicts, particularly centered on the burqa issue.
