A disturbing case of animal cruelty from Bengaluru’s Bagaluru area has triggered nationwide outrage after CCTV footage captured a domestic worker brutally killing her employer’s pet puppy, Goofy, inside an apartment elevator.
The incident occurred on October 31 around 4 pm in an upscale apartment complex. The accused, identified as 43-year-old Pushpalatha, had been employed for about six weeks to handle household chores and care for the family’s pets. However, the CCTV footage revealed a horrific act—Pushpalatha was seen violently throwing the small puppy inside the lift while taking him out for a walk.
Goofy’s owner, Rashi Poojari, discovered the shocking incident through the building’s CCTV recordings and immediately filed a police complaint at the Bagaluru Police Station. According to a report by India Today, the police have registered an FIR under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which criminalizes the intentional harming or killing of animals, carrying a punishment of up to five years in jail and a fine. The accused is currently on the run, and a police search is underway.

Deeply traumatised by her pet’s death, Rashi took to Instagram to share her grief, writing, “I’m sharing this with a very heavy heart. My baby Goofy is no more. The maid working at our house hit him and threw him on the floor. My heart is broken beyond words. Please keep my Goofy in your prayers; my baby is now in heaven.” She later confirmed that she was pursuing strict legal action, adding, “I’ve taken every step to make sure this cruel woman faces justice. What happened to Goofy should never happen to any other innocent soul again.”
Rashi also disclosed to Hindustan Times that, shortly after the incident, she discovered missing valuables in her home, including a gold chain, a diamond ring, and another gold ring. “When the police checked her bags, they found my gold chain hidden under a blanket,” she said. A separate theft complaint has also been filed against the accused.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread condemnation on social media platforms, with animal lovers demanding severe punishment for the offender. Comments flooded platforms like Instagram and X, with one user writing, “This is heartbreaking. Please ensure she is punished for this cruel act,” while another stated, “She must be jailed. No one should ever treat an animal this way.”
As calls for justice grow louder, Bengaluru Police continue their search for the absconding domestic worker amid mounting public outrage.
