A morphed video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared online by a local Congress leader sparked a public confrontation in Dombivali, leading to BJP workers draping a saree on the opposition member in retaliation.
The incident began when senior Congress functionary Prakash ‘Mama’ Pagare posted an edited video on Facebook showing PM Modi wearing a red saree, accompanied by a Marathi song and a caption about “staying in trend.” The post quickly drew criticism from BJP’s Kalyan district unit, which accused Pagare of disrespecting the Prime Minister.
On Tuesday morning, BJP leaders including district chief Nandu Parab and mandal president Karan Jadhav located Pagare near Manpada Road in Dombivali East. According to Loksatta newspaper, the workers then draped a new ₹5,000 saree around the Congress leader while he protested the act.
A video of the incident shows Pagare, dressed in traditional white kurta-pyjama, being surrounded by BJP workers who completed the gesture despite his objections. Before dispersing, one party member reportedly patted him on the cheek in a warning.
Defending the action, BJP’s Nandu Parab stated, “If anyone attempts to malign our senior leaders on social media, we will respond in kind. Today, Pagare had to face this because he disrespected the Prime Minister.”
