School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse in Legislative Assembly on Adoption of NCERT Curriculum, Textbooks, and CBSE Exam Pattern

Mumbai: As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse made a statement in the Legislative Assembly regarding the adoption of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum, textbooks, and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination pattern.

Minister Bhuse stated that the effective implementation of the new education policy in Maharashtra is being ensured through the active participation of informed parents and the positive role of teachers.
Under the new NEP 2020, Maharashtra has developed its own curriculum frameworks for school education and foundational learning, based on national curriculum frameworks. Necessary modifications have been made to ensure student-friendly content tailored for Maharashtra. The Maharashtra State Board textbooks, prepared through Balbharati, incorporate NCERT textbooks after a detailed review by Balbharati’s expert committees, making necessary modifications suitable for the state’s students.
To equip students with the required skills, the examination system will not be based on rote learning. Instead, Maharashtra will integrate CBSE’s comprehensive evaluation methods into the state board’s assessment pattern while making necessary modifications and improvements.

With the help of expert committees, curriculum frameworks have been designed considering Maharashtra’s educational background and specific requirements. The foundational-level curriculum and syllabus have also been developed accordingly.

The drafts of these curriculum frameworks were made available on the SCERT website for public feedback. Based on the received responses, final versions of both frameworks were approved by the state-level steering committee.

Curriculum and Syllabus Development

With the help of expert committees, foundational-level curriculum and syllabus (Balvatika 1, 2, 3, and Grades 1 & 2) have been developed and approved by the state-level steering committee.
Balbharati has begun preparing new Grade 1 textbooks as per the new curriculum.
SCERT is overseeing the development of curriculum and syllabus for Grades 1 to 10 in Maharashtra.

Key Features of CBSE Examination Pattern

Concept-Based Learning: Focus on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization, ensuring practical knowledge for students.

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE): Regular assessment of students through projects, activities, and various evaluation techniques instead of relying solely on final exams. Global Exposure: Students gain knowledge on state, national, and international levels. Competitive Exam Readiness: The CBSE curriculum is beneficial for national-level entrance exams like JEE, NEET, and UPSC.

Emphasis on Soft Skills and Counseling: Focus on personal development, including communication skills, leadership, creativity, and stress management.

Quality Education: The CBSE pattern ensures higher educational standards, benefiting students in the long run.
