Rs 15 Lakh Defrauded from Woman in ‘Work from Home’ Scam in Thane

A 37-year-old Dombivli woman from Maharashtra was allegedly cheated of Rs 15.14 lakh by cheats who had lured her into a work-from-home scheme with high returns. The cheat was between February and July last year, when the victim was approached by the accused, including a woman, who introduced her to a Telegram-based platform. They gave her several online tasks, promising her fat returns.

The accused reportedly coerced the woman into making online payments on numerous occasions for a total of Rs 15,14,460 over a few months. When the earnings and refund promised failed to turn up, the woman went to the police. Acting on her complaint, the Manpada police filed an FIR against the three accused.

The police are still investigating, with reports indicating that at least five other people could have fallen prey to the same scam. No one has been arrested, and authorities are trying to confirm the facts and widen their investigation into the fraud.
