Maharashtra Braces for Sweltering Heat in East and Pre-Monsoon Relief in West

Maharashtra is experiencing sharply contrasting weather patterns, with intense heatwave conditions gripping the eastern region while western areas, including major cities like Mumbai and Pune, anticipate possible pre-monsoon thunderstorms.

The heat has become particularly severe in Vidarbha, where residents are struggling under extreme temperatures. Brahmapuri stood out as one of the hottest locations globally, registering a high of 47.6°C. According to international weather records, this was second only to Jacobabad in Pakistan, which recorded 49°C. Several other Vidarbha cities also crossed the 45°C threshold, with Nagpur reaching 46.5°C, Bhandara and Gadchiroli at 46.4°C, and Chandrapur and Wardha hovering near 46°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has responded with strong warnings for the region. A Red Alert has been issued for Amravati, Wardha, and Chandrapur due to the risk of an extremely severe heatwave. Orange Alerts are in place for Akola, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli, while Yavatmal, Bhandara, and Gondia are under Yellow Alert. In a notable contrast, Mahabaleshwar in western Maharashtra recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 19.5°C.

Meanwhile, parts of western Maharashtra and the Konkan region are set for a change. Mumbai is likely to see hot and humid conditions with maximum temperatures between 33°C and 35°C. However, light rainfall with thunder and lightning is possible during the evening hours. Similar thunderstorm activity and gusty winds are expected in Thane and nearby coastal districts such as Palghar and Raigad. The IMD has placed these areas under a Yellow Alert for hot and humid weather.

Pune has already seen some light showers and cloudy skies in recent days. Forecasters anticipate continued thunderstorm activity in the coming days, with daytime temperatures expected to range between 35°C and 37°C. In addition to Pune, several other districts including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, Beed, Latur, and Nanded are also under Yellow Alert for possible thunderstorms and strong winds.

This mixed weather outlook highlights the variable conditions across the state, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) closely monitoring developments as residents in heat-affected areas seek relief while western regions prepare for potential rain.
