
Dispur: Senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has been unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislature party in Assam and is set to take oath as the Chief Minister on May 12, according to a report by India TV News.
The decision was taken during a meeting of NDA legislators held in Assam following the alliance’s victory. Party leaders and alliance members extended their support to Sarma, paving the way for him to continue leading the state government. The oath-taking ceremony is expected to take place in the presence of senior BJP leaders and other dignitaries.
According to the report, BJP central observers attended the legislature party meeting where Sarma’s name was formally proposed and approved without opposition. The NDA leadership expressed confidence in his administration and leadership abilities.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has been one of the key political figures in Assam and played a major role in strengthening the BJP’s presence in the northeastern region. During his tenure as Chief Minister, the state government focused on infrastructure development, welfare initiatives and administrative reforms.
Following the announcement, supporters of the BJP and NDA celebrated across different parts of Assam. Political leaders from the alliance also congratulated Sarma on being chosen once again to head the government.
As reported by India TV News, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are already underway, with party workers and officials making arrangements for the event scheduled on May 12.
The NDA’s decision to re-elect Sarma reflects the alliance’s continued confidence in his leadership after its electoral success in the state. The upcoming oath-taking ceremony is expected to mark the beginning of the new term for the Assam government under his leadership.
