Mumbai: Parts of Maharashtra experienced unseasonal rainfall accompanied by hail on Monday, affecting several districts and causing substantial damage to crops at the harvesting stage in Nashik, Khandesh, Pune, Satara, and Ahilyanagar. According to forecasts, wet weather conditions are likely to continue across many regions of the state over the next three days.
The maximum temperatures across the state have fallen below normal levels. Light rain is anticipated in the Mumbai metropolitan region on Tuesday. In Mumbai and Palghar, residents can expect light showers accompanied by thunder, while Thane district may see isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the unusual activity to two active western disturbances influencing the country. These systems are expected to bring rainfall to northwest India between March 30 and April 4, with isolated hail possible in Maharashtra as well. Hail was already reported in some areas of the state on Monday.
On that day, the maximum temperature at Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory stood at 32.9°C, while Colaba recorded 33°C. Several other locations, including Pune, Jalgaon, Mahabaleshwar, Nashik, and Sangli, saw drops of more than one degree in their daytime highs. The Pune meteorological centre recorded 26.2 mm of rainfall, with 36 mm measured at Lohegaon.
