Mumbai Megablock : Commuters Face Partial Disruptions

Mumbai’s suburban rail network will see limited but notable interruptions on Sunday, March 8, 2026, as Central Railway and Western Railway carry out essential maintenance and infrastructure works. While no full daytime mega block has been announced for Central Railway’s main, harbour, trans-harbour, or Uran lines, related special traffic and power blocks remain in effect on certain sections. Western Railway, meanwhile, has confirmed a night jumbo block on its suburban corridor.

Central Railway has not released details for a traditional mega block on the Central Line main section for March 8. However, ongoing special blocks continue to impact operations. Between Karjat and Bhivpuri Road, special traffic and power blocks are scheduled during midnight hours on the nights of March 6/7, 7/8, and 8/9, 2026, from approximately 1:55 am to 3:10 am each night. These blocks, on both up and down lines, support erection of portal booms and other works for the Panvel-Karjat corridor under MUTP-III. Suburban services will be unavailable between Badlapur and Karjat during these windows, with the last local to Karjat departing CSMT at 23:30 hrs and adjustments for short terminations or origins at Badlapur or Thane.

Additional special blocks between Thakurli and Kalyan, including on the night of March 7/8 from 1:45 am to 4:15 am, involve launching girders for the 3rd Patripool ROB construction. These affect fast and slow lines, leading to cancellations of some suburban trains between Dombivli and Kalyan, diversions of select Mail/Express services, and minor delays of 5-10 minutes for others. No repercussions are noted for the March 8/9 night in this section.

A longer-term traffic and power block at CSMT continues from February 1 to April 26, 2026. No mega block details have been issued yet for Harbour Line, Trans-Harbour Line, or Uran Line services on March 8.

On the Western Line, Western Railway will impose a night jumbo block between Mahim and Santacruz stations from 1:00 am to 4:30 am on the intervening night of March 7/8, 2026, covering up and down slow lines. The work targets track maintenance, signalling systems, and overhead equipment. During this period, down slow line trains will run on the down fast line between Mumbai Central and Santacruz. Due to platform constraints, these trains will halt twice at Lower Parel, Mahim, and Khar Road, skipping stops at Mahalaxmi, Prabhadevi, and Matunga Road. Certain suburban services will face cancellations. Detailed affected train lists will be available at station masters. Importantly, no daytime block is planned on Western Railway’s suburban section for March 8.

These blocks, as announced by Central Railway and Western Railway authorities, are vital for track, signalling, and structural upkeep to ensure long-term safety and reliability. Passengers are advised to check updates via official railway sources and allow extra travel time to minimize inconvenience.
