Mumbai: A fire broke out in a building close to Sassoon Dock in Mumbai’s Colaba area on Sunday afternoon, creating concern among local residents. Visuals shared on social media showed dense black smoke rising from the structure and spreading across the surrounding area.
According to reports, the incident was reported at around 12:30 pm. Videos of the blaze quickly circulated online as people in the vicinity captured the developing situation.
Mumbai Police Respond After Video Surfaces Online
A video of the fire was shared on X by a user identified as Pulkit Soni, who reportedly recorded the footage from his residence. Responding to the post, Mumbai Police stated that the information had been forwarded to the main control room for further action.
At the time of reporting, there was no official confirmation regarding whether firefighting teams had completely brought the blaze under control.

Incident Comes Days After Another Colaba Fire
The latest fire comes only a few days after a separate blaze was reported at Kismat Building opposite Sassoon Dock in Colaba. That incident occurred on May 28 when a fire allegedly started after an air-conditioner unit burst inside a fifth-floor apartment.
According to information cited by The Free Press Journal, residents immediately evacuated the premises after hearing the explosion-like sound. Firefighters reached the location promptly and managed to control the situation within approximately 30 minutes.
Recent Fire Incidents Raise Concerns
The Colaba fire is also among a series of recent fire-related incidents reported across Mumbai. Earlier this week, a BEST bus at Santacruz Depot reportedly caught fire after a suspected short circuit occurred in the driver’s cabin while the vehicle was being moved for refuelling.
Authorities are expected to assess the cause of the latest Colaba fire, while emergency response teams continue monitoring the situation. As of now, no information regarding injuries or casualties has been officially released.
