Mumbai BEST Bus Crash Near Dadar’s Kotwal Garden Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

Dadar: A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus allegedly lost control near Plaza Cinema in Dadar on Monday, crashing into several vehicles and triggering major traffic congestion in the area. According to reports by The Free Press Journal, the incident occurred close to Kotwal Garden, where witnesses said they heard a loud impact before spotting damaged vehicles on the road. 

Several Vehicles Damaged In Collision

As per preliminary information, the bus rammed into multiple vehicles, including an Activa scooter, an electric bike, a taxi, a Baleno car, and another electric vehicle before finally crashing. Visuals circulating on social media showed an overturned taxi and a severely damaged motorcycle, highlighting the intensity of the collision. 

Reports further stated that the BEST bus also hit barricades placed near a roadside construction site and eventually crashed into an excavation truck. The impact was reportedly so severe that the truck pierced through the front windshield of the bus.

One Person Dead, Three Others Injured

According to information shared by Assistant Medical Officer Dr Randhir from Sion Hospital, four injured individuals were brought to the hospital following the accident. An unidentified man, believed to be between 22 and 25 years old, was declared dead on arrival.

Another injured victim, identified as Rishabh Gupta, reportedly suffered a serious head injury and remains in critical condition. BEST inspector Satish Waghambare sustained chest and hip injuries, while Mahesh Doiphode suffered injuries to his left shoulder along with blunt trauma injuries. 

Earlier reports from The Free Press Journal had mentioned that the rider of the Activa, the electric bike rider, and the bus conductor were undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital. 

Traffic Movement Affected Near Kotwal Garden

The accident led to heavy traffic congestion in the Dadar area, particularly near Kotwal Garden. Mumbai Traffic Police personnel and local police officials reached the spot soon after the crash to manage the situation and regulate traffic movement. 

The Mumbai Traffic Police also issued an update on social media, informing commuters that traffic movement near Kotwal Garden had slowed significantly due to the accident. 

Bus Driver Taken Into Custody

Authorities have taken the BEST bus driver into custody, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further details regarding the sequence of events and possible mechanical failure are awaited. 

Recent BEST Bus Accidents Raise Concerns

The incident comes amid a series of recent BEST bus-related accidents in Mumbai. The Free Press Journal reported that a 50-year-old man had recently died after a BEST bus allegedly rammed into his parked car near Pushpa Park in Malad East.

In another incident last week, a nine-year-old boy lost his life in Malad East after a BEST bus allegedly hit the bicycle on which he was travelling. Last month, a BEST bus conductor also died in a chain collision involving four buses near Amboli Naka in Andheri West.
