Blaze Erupts from Transformer in Kalyan After Blast-Like Boom

Kalyan : A significant fire erupted in a Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) transformer late at night, following a loud explosion-like sound that alarmed local residents and plunged parts of the area into darkness.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Kalyan when residents suddenly heard a powerful blast-like noise. Flames quickly engulfed the transformer, spreading rapidly and causing widespread panic among nearby households. Visuals shared by IANS captured chaotic scenes as people hurriedly exited their homes upon seeing the fire. Many residents were seen navigating the darkened streets using mobile phone flashlights, highlighting the extent of the power disruption caused by the blaze.

Fire brigade teams were promptly alerted and arrived at the location to douse the flames. Officials successfully brought the situation under control. As of the latest updates, no injuries or casualties have been reported from the incident. The precise cause of the fire in the MSCB transformer remains under investigation.

Eyewitness accounts in the circulating video reflected the tension in the area. One local was heard expressing worry about nearby residential structures, noting their close proximity to the transformer and the potential risks involved.

This event comes shortly after similar disruptions in Mumbai. Just days earlier, several localities including Dadar, Wadala, and Girgaon experienced power outages due to transformer-related faults. In one case, an air trip in Transformers No. 2 and 3 at the Kings Way receiving station led to widespread electricity failure. Separately, a fire in a transformer near Girgaon Chowpatty affected power supply in that vicinity and surrounding areas.

The Kalyan transformer fire has once again underscored concerns regarding electrical infrastructure in the Mumbai metropolitan region, where such incidents can quickly escalate and impact daily life for thousands of residents. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough probe to determine the root cause and implement preventive measures.
