Mumbai : Even as rainfall has subsided across Maharashtra, commuters in Palghar district continue to struggle with massive potholes on the Ghodbunder Road stretch connecting Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar. Traffic has been crawling from Kajupada in Bhayandar to Vasai-Virar, with motorists forced to navigate the crater-ridden stretch at a slow pace. The deteriorating condition of the road has also sparked a political row over delayed repairs and inadequate funding.
During rainfall, these potholes become submerged, making them difficult for drivers to detect and significantly increasing the risk of accidents. Several vehicles have reportedly been damaged after hitting the craters, while commuters face the danger of back, neck and spinal injuries due to the impact. Although authorities have been carrying out temporary patchwork repairs, commuters continue to demand a permanent solution, arguing that repeated short-term fixes have failed to address the problem.
The letter drew a sharp response from Shiv Sena, which issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the municipal corporation to complete the repair work. The party warned that it would launch an aggressive protest if the deadline was not met. Shiv Sena has also demanded that criminal cases be registered against Mayor Dimple Mehta and the Municipal Commissioner, alleging that their failure to repair the road has endangered public safety. A memorandum seeking legal action has been submitted to the Mira-Bhayandar Police Commissioner.
