Mumbai: Passengers on long-distance trains originating from or heading to Mumbai are advised to adjust their travel plans as Central Railway prepares to implement a 10-day traffic and power block at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) beginning May 29, 2026. The block is required for essential redevelopment work on platforms 16 and 17 at the historic station.
Railway officials stated that the infrastructure upgrades, including foundation and modernisation works, are part of the broader station redevelopment project being carried out through the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). During this period, several mail and express trains will not operate till CSMT and will instead be short-terminated at Dadar or Thane stations.
The decision aims to facilitate critical platform-related infrastructure improvements without compromising safety. The affected services include the following trains, which will terminate at Dadar:
– 12112 Amravati-CSMT Express
– 11002 Ballarshah-CSMT Nandigram Express
– 12810 Howrah-CSMT Express
– 11020 Bhubaneswar-CSMT Konark Express
– 22144 Bidar-CSMT Express
– 22108 Latur-CSMT Express
– 22120 Madgaon-CSMT Tejas Express
Additionally, the 12134 Mangaluru-CSMT Express will be short-terminated at Thane.

Central Railway has urged passengers to check the latest revised schedules through official railway enquiry systems and announcements before commencing their journeys. Travellers have been requested to cooperate during the temporary arrangement and plan their trips accordingly to minimise inconvenience.
This redevelopment initiative at CSMT is expected to enhance passenger amenities and modernise facilities in the long run. However, the immediate effect will be felt by those relying on these long-distance services. Authorities have emphasised that passengers should stay updated via railway information channels to avoid any last-minute issues during the block period, which concludes after 10 days.
The move underscores ongoing efforts to balance infrastructure development with daily rail operations in one of India’s busiest railway networks. Passengers are encouraged to make alternative arrangements, especially those who had planned to board or alight at CSMT during this timeframe.
