BMC To Assess Water Cuts By June End

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will assess the level of water cuts by this month end. Stricter water cuts may be imposed if rainfall remains scarce, current stock is expected to last till August.

The monsoon season is expected to strengthen by 25th June, according to the IMD. A 10% was already announced in May, with an additional 20% for industrial users from 17th June. Usually by mid June, there are signs of monsoon in Mumbai, but June has largely been dry this year, with barely any rain.

With current water saving mechanisms, the stock is expected to last till August, by then monsoon should hit Mumbai with it’s full stride. The BMC is closely monitoring the situation and may consider additional water rationing if required. Like always, the BMC has appealed to the people to be mindful of their water usage.
