UK Deploys HMS Anson Submarine In Arabian Sea Amid US-Iran War Tensions

London: Amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, the United Kingdom has reportedly deployed a nuclear-powered submarine equipped with Tomahawk missiles to the Arabian Sea, according to a report cited by the Daily Mail.

The submarine, identified as HMS Anson, is understood to have travelled approximately 5,500 miles from Australia to the region earlier this month. Military sources quoted in the report indicated that the vessel departed from Perth after being stationed there as part of the AUKUS security alliance involving Australia, the UK, and the United States. 

HMS Anson had arrived in Australia in recent weeks as part of joint defence cooperation under AUKUS, a trilateral pact aimed at strengthening security ties and military capabilities among the three nations. The movement of the submarine toward the Arabian Sea signals a potential expansion of Western naval presence amid ongoing hostilities in West Asia. 

The deployment comes at a time when the conflict between Washington and Tehran has intensified, prompting increased military mobilisation across the region. While there has been no official confirmation from the UK government regarding the specific operational role of the submarine, its presence is seen as part of broader strategic positioning by Western allies.

Nuclear-powered submarines such as HMS Anson are capable of carrying advanced weaponry, including long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles, which enhance their strike capabilities. Their deployment is often considered a significant show of force due to their stealth, endurance, and ability to operate undetected for extended periods.
