Trump Threatens ‘Crushing’ Tariffs on India, China, and Brazil Over Russian Oil, Warns Senator Graham

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham announced that former President Donald Trump is preparing to implement substantial tariffs against countries that continue to import Russian oil, specifically naming India, China, and Brazil as potential targets.

Speaking with Fox News, Graham explained that Trump is considering a 100% tariff on oil-related imports from these nations. The stated goal of this proposed economic penalty is to cut off a major revenue stream for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Graham pointed out that India, China, and Brazil are collectively responsible for nearly 80% of Russia’s crude oil exports, which he alleges are funding Russia’s military operations in Ukraine. “Trump is going to impose tariffs on people that buy Russian oil China, India, and Brazil,” Graham said. He described the move as part of Trump’s strategy to penalize countries for indirectly aiding Putin’s regime.

The senator also delivered a stark warning, stating, “You have played President Trump at your own peril. You made a major league mistake, and your economy is going to continue to be crushed.” Graham also mentioned that military equipment is being sent to Ukrainian forces to help them in their conflict with Russia.

In his remarks, Graham accused Putin of attempting to resurrect the Soviet empire by seizing neighboring territories and showing disregard for international treaties. He highlighted Ukraine’s decision in the 1990s to dismantle its nuclear arsenal of over 1,700 weapons in exchange for security assurances, including a pledge from Russia to respect its sovereignty. Graham asserted that Putin “shattered that promise,” characterizing it as a violation of the post-Cold War order.
