Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to China over reports suggesting it could be supplying weapons to Iran, cautioning that such a move would lead to “big problems,” India Today reported. The remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical tension and a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
According to India Today, Trump made the statement while speaking to reporters before departing the White House, referencing intelligence inputs that indicate Beijing may be attempting to route military equipment, including air defence systems, to Iran through indirect channels. However, China has dismissed these allegations, describing them as unfounded.
The warning follows recent developments in the region, where a temporary two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains uncertain. As reported by India Today, concerns are growing that any external military support to Tehran could further destabilise the situation and undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route, continues to be a focal point of the tensions. Disruptions in the waterway have already impacted international shipping and energy markets, intensifying the urgency for maintaining peace in the region.
Reuters, as cited by India Today, noted that Trump did not elaborate on the potential consequences China might face but reiterated his administration’s firm stance on preventing further escalation. The US has been closely monitoring developments, particularly any signs of increased military cooperation between Beijing and Tehran.
The situation underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics involving major global powers, with the ceasefire hanging in the balance. Further developments are expected as diplomatic and military activities continue in the region, India Today added.
