Thailand Cuts Visa-Free Stay to 30 Days for Indians and 92 Countries |

Thailand has officially decided to end its 60-day visa-free entry scheme for travellers from 93 countries and territories, including India, bringing back the earlier 30-day stay limit. The move was approved by the Thai Cabinet as part of efforts to tighten immigration controls and prevent misuse of long-term visa exemptions.

According to The Economic Times, the revised policy will impact tourists who were previously allowed to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. Most affected countries will now return to the standard 30-day visa-free entry arrangement.

Reuters reported that Thai authorities are also reviewing other visa categories to ensure visitors comply with the intended purpose of their travel. Officials said the changes were introduced amid growing concerns over illegal activities involving some foreign nationals using extended visa-free stays.

Thailand had expanded the 60-day visa-free scheme in July 2024 to boost tourism and economic recovery. However, the government has now chosen to restore the previous rules after authorities raised concerns about misuse of the relaxed policy.

Tourism remains a major pillar of Thailand’s economy. Reuters noted that the country welcomed around 12.4 million foreign tourists between January and May 2026, though arrivals were slightly lower compared to the same period last year.

The updated policy applies to travellers from India and 92 other countries and territories that were part of the extended visa-free programme.
