Russian An-26 Crash In Crimea Kills 29, Technical Malfunction Suspected
Moscow: A Russian An-26 military transport aircraft carrying 29 people crashed into a cliff in Crimea.
The Russian Defence Ministry informed that the crash likely occurred due to the technical malfunction. As per the Reuters, the flight was destined to a particular location while the aircraft lost its control at around 6 pm local time on Tuesday.
Later on, when the aircraft went missing the search team located the crash site and found out that six crew members along with 23 passengers on board were found dead with zero survivors.
The report suggests that no outside attack harmed the aircraft such as military missile, drones or bird strikes. However, a military commission has been sent to investigate the reason for the crash.
In an official statement, the military said “There was no impact on the aircraft. The preliminary cause of the crash is a technical malfunction. A commission for the military is working at the site.”
The An-26 military aircraft is a light tactical transport introduced in the late 1960s which has been widely used for both civilian as well as military purposes. However, in recent years it has been involved in several fatal accidents such as crashes in Ukraine, South Sudan and the Ivory Coast.
