Russia Pounds Kyiv With Ballistic Missiles, 9 Killed

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least nine people were killed and 28 others, including four children, were wounded as Russia bombarded Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, with ballistic missiles. According to witnesses, the strikes occurred early on Saturday and caused over a dozen explosions that echoed throughout the city.

Power outages were reported in certain parts of Kyiv, and fires broke out around the city. People were trapped inside a partially collapsed apartment structure in the Shevchenkivskyi area, according to Klitschko. According to him, the damaged building’s first and second floors had partially collapsed. He added that some warehouses were on fire. This week, Kyiv has been the target of two significant attacks. Two days prior to the strikes, a suspected Russian cruise missile had landed in Poland during a major assault on Ukraine.

Nine people were killed in the incident on Thursday, including six members of a single family in a village close to Kryvyi Rih. In recent months, Russia has increased its ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine, and Kyiv is now lacking Patriot interceptor weapons, which are essential for defending against them. Ukraine is stepping up its strikes on Russian territory in retaliation, mostly focusing on oil terminals. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, has been negotiating a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles with the United States and has pushed allies for further support.

Despite previously stating earlier this month that he had agreed to grant the Ukrainians a license, US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that negotiations were still in progress but that Washington had not yet approved the idea and that Washington had to be “very careful about letting somebody build them.”

Trump stated on Friday, “You have to be very careful, but you have to be very judicious.” “At this point, we have not consented to that. We’re discussing it, but giving away that kind of technology is difficult. Although I don’t think this will ever occur, you never know, if you give that technology to some people, they might eventually turn against you.
