President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, that 12 people had been killed in the most recent Russian attacks on Ukraine. Drones and ballistic missiles hit multiple cities in the eastern European country, causing damage to civilian infrastructure and residential buildings. One of the victims was an Indian citizen.
According to a social media post by President Zelenskyy, guided aerial bomb and drone attacks against Odesa city and the surrounding area have persisted since Monday evening, August 31, 2026, leaving thousands of households without electricity.
“Overall, 12 people were killed, among them an Indian citizen,” he stated. “My condolences to everyone who has lost family and loved ones,” the president of Ukraine continued.
Zelenskyy reported that the attacks, which also affected the areas of Kyiv, Odesa, Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Dnipro, injured dozens of people.
A strike on a railroad terminal in Kyiv claimed seven lives. Zelenskyy reported that four people were killed and thirteen injured in the city, while a five-story residential structure in Boryspil sustained damage and fifty people were evacuated.
According to him, rescue and recovery efforts in Kyiv and the surrounding area alone engaged up to 350 first responders.
Zelenskyy stated that a “significant number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles were used in the attack” and that civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were destroyed. He added that Russian drone and guided aerial bomb attacks against Odesa and the surrounding area were still ongoing.
Zelenskyy further claims that export facilities and a border crossing with Romania were “deliberately damaged.”
The president of Ukraine demanded more air defense support for his country and accused Russia of killing civilians on purpose.
“Russia only succeeds when air defense capabilities are inadequate, and it always designs its strikes precisely to bring as much harm to people’s lives as possible.
“The number of victims of Russian terror directly hinges on every new package of assistance,” Zelenskyy stated, expressing gratitude to nations that support Ukraine through bilateral supplies and the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).
