On Monday, August 31, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss several important facets of bilateral relations, such as collaboration in the fields of trade and investment, energy, and defense.
According to the Interfax news agency, PM Modi stated that India supported all attempts at peace to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
The discussion was held in this Kyrgyz capital city on the fringes of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) yearly summit.
“We must work toward ending hostilities because every day of war sets humanity back,” PM Modi continued.
The discussions took place more than a week prior to Putin’s trip to India for the yearly BRICS meeting.
Officials stated prior to the meeting that the discussions will include typical sectors of India-Russian collaboration, such as trade, investment, energy, and defense.
