New York : Former US Congressional representative and noted anti-H-1B visa campaigner Marjorie Taylor Greene has once again upped the ante against the visa programme. She also alleged in her post that various areas in the state of Texas, like Irving, Plano, Las Colinas, Frisco, McKinney and Prosper have been “completely overrun and overtaken by both Muslims and Indians. The presenter alleged the presence of serious H-1B visa fraud in Texas, particularly North Texas.
The clip references a map showing a disproportionately high number of H-1B approvals in the state. It focusses on Dallas-based immigration lawyer Chand Paravathaneni, who allegedly approved over 400,000 H-1B applicants by 2024 and more than 700,000 in Texas by 2025 alone. Greene has long been a vocal critic of the H-1B programme, going so far as to invite US President Donald Trump’s wrath over her strident opposition. She has previously accused US firms of abusing the programme to push out American workers and replace them with H-1B hires.
Big Tech, AI giants, hospitals and industries across the board have abused the H-1B system to cut out our own people, she had said in a previous X post, adding, Americans are the most talented people in the world, and I have full faith in the American people. I serve Americans only, and I will ALWAYS put Americans first. According to the USCIS Characteristics of H-1B Speciality Occupation Workers Fiscal Year 2024 report, about 399,395 H-1B petitions overall were approved. This included 141,205 for initial employment and 258,190 for continuing employment.
It is evident that the claims of a single immigration lawyer managing to approve over a million H-1B visas over two years are seemingly not accurate and are driven by racist attitudes against Indians who make up 71% of all H-1B visa holders, as well as a desire to see the H-1B programme terminated, despite how crucial H-1B visa holders are across sectors of the US economy such as tech, healthcare and education. She recently gained attention for introducing HR 6937, a bill to end the H-1B visa programme, arguing it allowed companies to replace American workers with foreign labour, particularly impacting tech and other industries.
