Nepal Elections 2026: Voting Underway To Elect 275-Member House Of Representatives

Kathmandu: After overthrowing the reign of K P Sharma Oli by Gen-z protest, it is the first time that Nepalese are casting their votes on Thursday.

Voters commenced their voting practice at 7 am and it will concluded by 5 pm, while the counting will be done once the voting is finished and then the ballot boxes will be collected to get the results.

The 275-member House of Representatives will be chosen by more than 18.9 million eligible Nepalese from 3,406 candidates running for 165 seats through direct vote and 3,135 candidates running for 110 seats through proportionate voting. 

Veteran leaders casted their votes. Nepal has recorded a voter turnout of about six per cent till 9.30 am, according to the country’s Election Commission.

Acting Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari urged voters to actively and passionately engage in the democratic process on Wednesday, saying that all election preparations had been finished during a press conference held here on the eve of the polls.
