Pune : Praveen Goyal, the father of Siya Goyal, the main accused in the murder of her fiance, Ketan Agarwal, said his daughter should receive the strictest punishment if she is found guilty. He even said she deserved the death penalty. The comments came after Pune Police alleged that Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, planned Ketan’s murder and pushed him into a gorge at Lohagad Fort on June 18.
Praveen Goyal said he was still unable to believe the allegations against his daughter. He added that the shock of her arrest was so severe that he had to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). “I still cannot believe my daughter could do something like this. She never lied to me and always followed the right path,” he said.
He stressed that justice should come first. “If my daughter is found guilty, the court should not delay justice. She should receive the punishment she deserves,” he said. He also made an emotional remark, saying that if the allegations were proven, she should be taken to the same fort and pushed from the same spot where Ketan was allegedly killed. He later added that she could also be given the death penalty.
Siya’s mother, Pooja Goyal, said the family had never seen any problems in the couple’s relationship. She said Siya and Ketan regularly spoke over video calls, met often, and seemed happy together. Ketan had also visited their home for dinner. Rejecting claims that Siya did not want to marry Ketan, Pooja said the family had spent around Rs 50,000 shopping for a planned pre-wedding trip to Bali.
“If Siya had told us she didn’t want to marry Ketan, why would we have spent so much on wedding shopping?” she said. Praveen Goyal said Ketan was like a son to him and that both families were excitedly preparing for the wedding. “What has happened is deeply tragic. Even today, we cannot believe it,” he said.
He also denied allegations made by Ketan’s father that Siya’s family had hidden important facts. According to him, they had no idea about any problems in the relationship or about Siya’s alleged affair with another man. He described Siya as a simple girl who always appeared happy about her upcoming wedding.
