The attack reportedly came shortly after renewed US military action targeting Iranian military infrastructure near Bandar Abbas, a strategically important port city located close to the Strait of Hormuz.
What Happened at Bandar Abbas?
Reports from Reuters and other international agencies indicated that the United States carried out fresh strikes against Iranian military positions and drone operations near Bandar Abbas. US officials reportedly claimed the strikes were defensive in nature and aimed at preventing threats to American troops and commercial shipping routes in the region.
The Bandar Abbas area holds major strategic significance because of its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping corridors.
Iran Responds After US Action
Following the strikes, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reportedly launched retaliatory actions targeting American-linked military installations in the region. Several media outlets reported that a US base in Kuwait may have been among the intended targets during the missile and drone attack.
Iranian officials warned that any further military escalation could lead to stronger responses.
Around an hour ago, Iran launched a ballistic missile from Khuzestan towards Ali Al Salem Airbase in Kuwait. The missile was intercepted by a Patriot battery stationed at the airbase.
