Israel Defence Minister Claims Killing of Iran’s Navy Commander

Jerusalem, March 26, 2026: Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that Commodore Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy, was eliminated along with several other senior naval officers in an Israeli strike carried out overnight.
According to the Israeli statement, the operation targeted Tangsiri, who played a central role in overseeing efforts to restrict passage through a key maritime chokepoint. Iran has not issued any immediate confirmation or acknowledgment of his death.
The announcement came on Thursday as Israel pressed ahead with its military campaign against Iranian targets. Since the onset of joint U.S.-Israeli operations against Iran on February 28, Israeli officials have reported the elimination of multiple high-ranking Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the country’s influential security chief, Ali Larijani.
In the past week, Israeli airstrikes have focused increasingly on Iran’s naval capabilities. Recent attacks struck several vessels in the Caspian Sea, including missile-equipped ships, support boats, and patrol craft.
The reported killing of Tangsiri adds to the growing list of senior IRGC personnel claimed by Israel amid the escalating conflict. Katz described the strike as part of broader efforts to degrade Iran’s naval command structure.
