Iran Delegation Arrives Islamabad With Minab School Victims Tribute For US Peace Talks

Washington: A high-level Iranian delegation arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for peace negotiations with the United States, marked by an emotional tribute to children killed in a recent airstrike on a school in Minab. Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf described the young victims as “companions on this flight” while displaying photographs of the children along with blood-soaked school bags and abandoned footwear.

The symbolic gesture, shared via images on social media, served as a stark reminder of the human toll of the conflict just as indirect talks with the US delegation get underway in the Pakistani capital.

Ghalibaf reiterated Iran’s position of goodwill mixed with deep distrust toward Washington. “Our experience of negotiations with the Americans has always been met with failure and breach of promise. They attacked us twice in the middle of the negotiations. We have goodwill but no trust,” he stated upon arrival, according to reports referencing his remarks in response to comments by US Vice President JD Vance.

The Iranian team is led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and includes Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Defence Council Secretary Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati. Officials have stressed that Tehran’s previously outlined preconditions must be addressed for the talks to progress meaningfully, warning that ignoring these demands could derail the process.

The arrival comes amid heightened security in Islamabad as both sides engage in the latest round of efforts to stabilise the fragile ceasefire following the US-Iran conflict. The tribute to the Minab school victims has cast a sombre shadow over the diplomatic proceedings, highlighting the civilian casualties that continue to shape Tehran’s negotiating stance.
