NEW YORK: Reigning European champions Spain crowned their remarkable campaign by winning the FIFA World Cup on Sunday night, ensuring their dominance over world football for the next four years. With Spain lifting the coveted trophy, here’s a look at how much prize money the champions, runners-up Argentina and the other participating teams received from FIFA.
Record Prize Pool for the 48-Team World Cup
For the first-ever 48-team FIFA World Cup, FIFA increased the total prize pool to a record US$871 million (approximately ₹8,362 crore). Following a revision in April, the governing body added more than US$100 million to the overall prize fund.
World champions Spain will return home with US$51 million (approximately ₹492 crore) in prize money, which will be received by the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
Despite losing the thrilling final at New Jersey Stadium, defending champions Argentina earned US$34 million (approximately ₹327 crore) as runners-up. The amount is US$4 million more than the prize money awarded to France for finishing runners-up at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
As per FIFA’s standard practice, the national football federation of each participating country retains a significant portion of the prize money. The remaining amount is then distributed among the players, coaching staff and support staff according to a pre-decided formula.

(6) Round of 16 Teams (including the United States and Brazil): ₹154 crore each
(7) Round of 32 Teams (including Germany and the Netherlands): ₹115 crore each
(8) Group Stage Teams (33rd to 48th place): ₹96 crore each
