‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Icon Eric Dane Succumbs To ALS at 53

Veteran actor Eric Dane, renowned for his charismatic portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan on the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and his intense role in the HBO series Euphoria, has passed away at the age of 53. US media outlets, including CBS, reported the news on Thursday, citing a family statement.

Dane was diagnosed last year with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the progressive neurological condition commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In a heartfelt announcement from his family, shared through various news sources, they expressed profound sorrow: “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.”

The statement highlighted that Dane spent his final moments surrounded by close friends, his devoted wife, and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were described as the center of his world. Throughout his illness, he emerged as a dedicated advocate for greater awareness and research into the disease, aiming to support others confronting the same challenges.
