Police Hunt Intensifies for Brown University Shooter as New Surveillance Footage Emerges

Providence authorities have unveiled fresh surveillance footage and details about a person of interest in the deadly shooting at Brown University, emphasizing that the prestigious Ivy League campus was deliberately targeted.

The attack on Saturday claimed the lives of two students and left nine others injured. On Monday, the Providence Police Department shared video clips captured hours before the incident, showing an individual in the vicinity of the campus around 2 p.m.

In one 13-second segment, the person—wearing a mask and a dark two-tone jacket— is seen walking along a sidewalk beside a picket fence. Additional footage includes an eight-second clip of the individual crossing a street while masked, and a nine-second video depicting the same figure strolling near an iron gate. Police also released still photos highlighting the suspect’s dark clothing.

The FBI described the individual as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a stocky build and has announced a $50,000 reward for tips leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the perpetrator, whom officials consider armed and dangerous.

This development follows the release of an earlier person of interest detained at a Rhode Island hotel, representing a setback in the ongoing investigation.

Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez, Jr. stated during a Monday press conference that the shooter unequivocally intended to strike Brown University. “What I can tell you is that this individual definitely targeted Brown University, because clearly we’re here speaking about that,” Perez said, adding that authorities remain open to exploring any additional motives.

The probe continues as law enforcement urges the public to come forward with information.
