2 Killed, 8 Injured In Shooting During Final Exams At Brown University In US

Providence, Rhode Island — A gunman clad in black opened fire on the campus of Brown University on Saturday, leaving two people dead and eight others wounded amid the bustle of final examinations, authorities reported, citing the Associated Press.

The attack occurred in an engineering building, where students were taking exams. More than three hours later, law enforcement officers continued searching campus structures and examining trash receptacles as the suspect remained at large.

Deputy Police Chief Timothy O’Hara described the assailant as a male wearing dark clothing, last observed fleeing the engineering facility on foot. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley confirmed that a shelter-in-place order was enforced for the campus and nearby areas, urging residents to remain indoors until authorities deemed it safe.

Smiley emphasized that all available resources were deployed to locate the suspect. He noted that the eight injured individuals were in critical but stable condition at local hospitals. The mayor declined to specify whether the victims were university students.

The incident prompted a swift response from local and state police, heightening security in the area surrounding the Ivy League institution.
