New Delhi : Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday mocked the government in Parliament over the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan saying the Centre had “saved the Prime Minister by sacrificing a Pradhan”.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the 10-hour debate on the anti-paper leak bill, Yadav referred to the warm reception Pradhan received upon his arrival at Parliament and remarked that BJP members must have felt enormous relief after the resignation. He quipped that by removing one “Pradhan”, the government had managed to protect the “Pradhan Mantri”.
Yadav further said that Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation was a result of sustained pressure from students protesting against the NEET paper leak. He praised the youth for their determination and unity, claiming that their movement had compelled the government to retreat.
According to the SP leader, the ruling establishment had believed itself to be unbeatable, but the students demonstrated that even a powerful government can be forced to bend under public pressure. Quoting the line “jhukti hai duniya jhukane wala chahiye” (the world bends before those who know how to make it bend), he said the government ultimately bowed to the protesters’ demands and accepted the minister’s resignation.
