Bangladesh Create History Against Australia, Defeat World No. 1 Test Team

Darwin: Bangladesh have achieved a historic milestone in their Test history by registering their biggest-ever victory. They have also won a Test match in Australia for the first time.

After a gap of 23 years, Bangladesh returned to Australia for a Test match, and on Sunday, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team defeated Pat Cummins’ world No. 1 Test side by nine wickets on the fourth day.

Australia were bowled out for 284 in their second innings, with spinner Mehidy Miraz taking five wickets and pacer Hasan Mahmud claiming three. Bangladesh were therefore set a modest target of just 57 runs, which they chased down for the loss of one wicket. Cameron Green’s century (104) went in vain.

Hasan Mahmud was named Player of the Match after taking nine wickets across the game.

Australia had scored 198 in their first innings, after which Bangladesh posted 426, powered by Tanzid Hasan’s 101, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 84 and Mehidy Miraz’s 65. Bangladesh thus secured a substantial 228-run first-innings lead.
