Australia Investigates Death Threat Ahead of PM Modi’s Melbourne Event at Marvel Stadium

Australian authorities have launched an investigation after a death threat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi surfaced on a social media post announcing his upcoming visit to Melbourne, according to Australia Today.

The threat appeared in the comments section of a Facebook post shared by the Australia India Foundation, which was promoting the “Melbourne Meets Modi” community event. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend the event at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on July 9.

The comment, allegedly posted by a user identified as Abu Mustafa, was translated from Arabic and read: “The roof tops of the stadium better close during the event or he will be coming to Australia for his death.”

According to Australia Today, the post prompted an immediate response from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), which has reportedly traced the IP address linked to the comment. No arrests have been made so far.

The claims have been widely reported but were not independently verified by Media. The Australian Federal Police declined to comment on the matter, Australia Today reported.

The Australia India Foundation, which shared the original Facebook post, has around 1,600 followers and primarily organises events for the Indian diaspora. The “Melbourne Meets Modi” event is scheduled for 3:30 pm local time on July 9.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Australia as part of a three-nation tour from July 6 to July 11. The visit will begin in Indonesia on July 6, followed by Australia, before concluding in New Zealand.

Prime ministerial visits typically involve extensive security arrangements coordinated between the visiting country’s security agencies and host nation authorities. According to Australia Today, the matter has been brought to the attention of the authorities responsible for the Prime Minister’s security during the visit.
