Bengaluru : A parent’s biggest fear about leaving their child at daycare has reportedly come true in Bengaluru. Children as young as two years old were allegedly treated very badly. They were made to sit inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine, had water sprayed into their mouths with a jet spray, and were locked inside bathrooms for crying.
Videos from a daycare centre inside the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru have caused public anger. After the videos were shared on social media, police registered an FIR against five women caregivers and started an investigation into the alleged abuse of children. The case came to light after the videos went viral online. The footage appears to show repeated incidents of children being mistreated at the daycare.
The caregivers tried to scare the toddlers while their parents were at work. The children were allegedly made to sit inside a washing machine drum, forced to sit on a Western-style toilet, had water sprayed into their mouths with a bidet, and were locked inside a bathroom to stop them from crying.
Police are now recording statements from the parents who filed the complaint, daycare staff, and other witnesses. They said the next steps in the case will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation. The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also taken up the matter after receiving a petition. It is not yet clear whether the daycare was run directly by Capgemini or by an outside company operating on the campus. Police are checking the videos and investigating exactly what happened.
