Chennai : Tamil Nadu’s post-election political situation continues to remain fluid, with parties weighing their options as uncertainty persists over government formation. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said the party has not discussed any alliance with the AIADMK and would wait until May 10, the deadline reportedly given by the Governor, to see whether TVK chief Vijay can secure majority support.
VCK leader Sinthanai Selvan criticised TVK’s approach to alliance-building, accusing some party functionaries of political arrogance and warning that opposition unity was essential to prevent what he described as BJP-backed Governor’s rule. Congress MP Manickam Tagore also attacked the BJP, alleging attempts to delay the formation of a government despite what he claimed was a clear public mandate in favour of TVK. Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran has said that the BJP will not attempt to form a government in Tamil Nadu as it has not recieved the mandate from the voters. BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said the party believes whichever side commands majority support should form the government in Tamil Nadu. Referring to TVK’s claim, he said the Governor must be satisfied about the numbers before taking a decision. Thirupathy added that the Governor would act according to constitutional provisions and the rule of law while deciding the next course of action.
Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran said the party fully accepts the Assembly election verdict and respects the people’s mandate. He stated that the BJP neither has the numbers nor intends to participate in efforts to form a new government in the state. Nagenthran also clarified that the party would not support any formation exercise involving other political parties.
