Bride-to-Be and Parents Die by Suicide in Karnataka Village

In a deeply distressing incident in Karnataka’s Mysuru district, three members of a family including a young woman set to marry the next day died by suicide at their home. The event has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the severe emotional toll of personal conflicts and external pressures.

The deceased have been identified as Shivanna, aged 50, his wife Nagarathna, 45, and their daughter Rakshitha, 21. According to initial reports, the family consumed poison at their residence in Halekempayyanahundi village, located in the T Narasipura taluk. The wedding of Rakshitha was scheduled for the following day.

Authorities indicate that the family had been experiencing significant emotional distress in the lead-up to the tragedy. Preliminary investigations suggest they faced ongoing harassment from a man named Ullas Gowda, also from the same village. Gowda reportedly had intentions of marrying Rakshitha himself. Once her engagement to another man was arranged, he allegedly began spreading negative comments about her and shared private messages and photographs with her fiancé, seemingly in an effort to sabotage the upcoming marriage.

A note discovered at the scene is understood to hold Gowda accountable for the family’s actions. Police have recovered the note but have not yet disclosed its complete details. Officers from the T Narasipura Police Station arrived at the location shortly after the incident and have registered a formal case. Investigators are now thoroughly examining the note, electronic records, and other relevant circumstances to establish a clearer picture of events.

This case underscores the profound impact that persistent harassment and family stress can have, particularly in the context of arranged marriages and community expectations. Local residents expressed sorrow over the loss, with many describing the family as ordinary and well-regarded in the village prior to these difficulties.

As the probe continues, authorities are expected to interview additional witnesses and review further evidence. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for timely intervention in cases of emotional harassment and the importance of support systems for families under pressure. No further details on the exact sequence of events have been released pending the ongoing investigation.
