Twisha Sharma’s Husband Recalls Dispute Over Trip Before Death

New Delhi: In the ongoing investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, her husband Samarth Singh has told police that her behaviour changed significantly after she confirmed her pregnancy on April 17.

According to Samarth Singh’s statement during interrogation, this shift contrasted with family claims that his questions about the paternity of the unborn child had caused her distress. The couple, whose marriage lasted only five months, frequently argued, including a dispute over a planned trip to Ajmer in Rajasthan just hours before Twisha was found hanging at their residence in Bhopal on May 12.

Messages exchanged between Twisha Sharma and her mother highlighted tensions related to her pregnancy and described a hostile atmosphere at her in-laws’ home. Twisha reportedly made several appeals to her parents to take her away, with one message reading, “*Mera dum ghut raha hai maa*” (I am feeling suffocated, mother).

On the night of her death, Twisha called her mother around 10:05 pm to share her difficulties. Her brother, Major Harshit Sharma of the Indian Army, said she suddenly ended the call when her husband entered the room. Subsequent attempts by the family to reach Twisha, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law went unanswered. Later, her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, informed them of her death.

Samarth Singh, currently in seven-day police remand, was questioned for about two hours on Saturday. He had gone missing since the day of Twisha’s death and was arrested after attempting to surrender in Jabalpur, following the rejection of his anticipatory bail application. His mother, a retired judge, received pre-arrest bail but faced accusations of not cooperating with the investigation.

His courtroom demeanour on Friday drew notice, with observers describing him as composed and showing no visible signs of remorse or nervousness.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar told that action would be taken against anyone found sheltering the accused. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended Samarth Singh from legal practice, citing the impact of the allegations on the profession’s dignity.

A second post-mortem examination of Twisha Sharma’s body is scheduled for Sunday in Bhopal. It will be conducted by a team of four senior doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, as directed by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, had married Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her family has alleged mental torture and dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, sparking public outrage and calls for a thorough probe.
