Tushar Mehta To Serve As Solicitor General For Three More Years

Tushar Mehta, the Solicitor General of India, has been reappointed by the Union Government for an additional three-year term, effective July 1, 2026.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) authorized the 61 year old’s reappointment as the Solicitor General for India in the Supreme Court for an additional three years, or until further orders, whichever comes first, in accordance with an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 20, 2026.

Five Additional Solicitors General (ASGs) for the Supreme Court have also been reappointed by the ACC for an additional three-year term. The reappointed law officers are Suryaprakash V. Raju, N. Venkataraman, and Aishwarya Bhati, whose reappointments will start on June 30, 2026, and Vikramjit Banerjee and K.M. Nataraj, whose new terms will begin on July 1, 2026.

Additionally, starting on July 1, 2026, or until further instructions, whichever comes first, Chetan Sharma has been reappointed as Additional Solicitor General for the Delhi High Court for an additional six months. Since October 10, 2018, Tushar Mehta has held the position of Solicitor General.

Prior to this, he was reappointed on July 1, 2023, for a term ending on June 30, 2026.
