Iran has inscribed thank-you messages to the people of India, Spain, Germany, and Pakistan on missiles launched against Israel and US military installations a gesture that has drawn sharp international attention amid the widening West Asia conflict.
Visuals posted by the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai on X showed Iranian military personnel writing messages with blue markers on projectiles before launch. One inscription read: “Thank you, people of India.” The post attributed the gratitude to Iran’s Aerospace Force, citing support and solidarity “especially during the 83rd wave of missile response to the US and Israel.”
The strikes were carried out in retaliation for a US-Israeli bombing campaign that began on February 28, and form part of what Iran has termed Operation True Promise 4 a campaign involving hundreds of drones and missiles. This latest round was the 83rd wave of that operation.
The gesture has since sparked debate over shifting diplomatic alignments in the region.
In a separate move, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced sweeping restrictions on maritime traffic, declaring that vessels linked to “allies and supporters of Israeli-American enemies” would be barred from all routes. Iranian state media carried the announcement.
Despite the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, India has managed to keep its ships moving through the waterway. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Friday that four India-flagged vessels have successfully passed through the strait.
On the ground, civilians in parts of Jammu and Kashmir have organised donation drives for those affected by the conflict in Iran. Contributions have included cash, jewellery, and household items.
