Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Jospeh Vijay felicitated Indian chess sensation R Praggnanandhaa with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh following his recent Norway Chess 2026 Title in Oslo.

The young grandmaster was recognised for continuing to make India proud on the global chess stage. Despite suffering a defeat against a fellow grandmaster during the event, Praggnanandhaa’s overall performance drew appreciation from the Tamil Nadu government.

According to The Economic Times, Chief Minister Vijay met Praggnanandhaa and congratulated him for his achievements in international chess competitions. The state government acknowledged his contribution to Indian chess and his consistent performances against top-ranked players worldwide.

The financial reward was presented as a gesture of encouragement for the Chennai-born chess prodigy, who has emerged as one of India’s leading names in the sport. The governmnet also released a video of grandmaster meeting CM Vijay with his parents.
