Prahlad Joshi Takes Command Of Education Ministry

On Sunday, July 26, 2026, Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi formally assumed leadership of the Ministry of Education at Kartavya Bhavan. In addition, the Minister is in charge of the Union Ministries of New and Renewable Energy, Food and Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs. Following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Mr. Joshi was named Minister of Education.

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Mr. Pradhan resigned from his position in response to nationwide student protests organized by the Cockroach Janta Party that demanded his removal due to the NEET paper leak instances.

Mr. Joshi oversaw a Ministry assessment meeting where he evaluated the execution of several programs and other activities. The review meeting was also attended by Jayant Chaudhary, the Union Minister of State for Education. As recommended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President ordered on Saturday, July 25, 2026, that Mr. Joshi, Cabinet Minister, be given the responsibility of the Ministry of Education in addition to his current portfolio, according to an official release. At the moment, he is in charge of New and Renewable Energy, Food and Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs.

According to clause (2) of Article 75 of the Indian Constitution, the President has accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect, as directed by the Prime Minister, the statement continued.

Senior Ministry officials were present, including Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, and T. K. Anil Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy.
