Pune: Siya Goyal, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her fiance Ketan Agarwal, sparked fresh controversy on Thursday after she was seen making an obscene gesture and flashing her middle finger at media personnel while being escorted by Pune Rural Police during an ongoing investigation. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral across social media platforms and added another layer of public attention to the high profile murder case.
Police had taken Goyal to her residence in Pune’s Market Yard area as part of the investigation, where officials reportedly recovered clothes believed to have been worn on the day of the alleged crime. As she exited the premises under police escort, Goyal, with her face partially covered by a scarf, briefly looked towards waiting journalists and made the gesture before being taken away.
The development comes amid an intensive probe into the death of 26 year old realtor Ketan Agarwal, who died after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18. Investigators initially treated the incident as an accidental fall after Goyal reportedly claimed that Agarwal had slipped. However, the investigation later took a dramatic turn after police alleged that the fall was part of a pre planned murder conspiracy involving Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly rehearsed the plan at another hillock in Pune weeks before the incident. Police claim that Goyal and Chaudhary later lured Agarwal to Lohagad Fort, where they allegedly pushed him into the valley. Authorities have also sought additional custodial interrogation and are reportedly pursuing further forensic and investigative procedures, including a lie detector test, subject to legal approval.
The case has drawn widespread attention because Goyal and Agarwal were engaged and their wedding had reportedly been scheduled for later this year. Police allege that Goyal maintained a relationship with Chaudhary and that the two conspired to eliminate Agarwal. Both accused remain under investigation, while the allegations against them are yet to be tested during trial.
The video of Goyal’s gesture has triggered intense reactions online, with many users questioning her conduct while the investigation is still underway. However, legal experts note that public reaction and social media commentary have no bearing on the judicial process, and the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Pune Rural Police are expected to continue presenting evidence before the court as the investigation progresses. More developments are anticipated in the coming days as forensic findings and additional witness statements are examined.
