New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak is facing possible arrest in Punjab shortly after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to a report by India Today. The development comes amid escalating political tensions following the recent defection of several AAP leaders.
Punjab Police have registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against Pathak in separate districts. Sources cited in the India Today report indicate that the cases involve serious allegations, including corruption and harassment of women, and have been filed under non-bailable sections of the law. The BJP has alleged that the timing of these cases suggests political vendetta, as the FIRs were filed just days after Pathak formally switched parties. The accusations have intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and the ruling AAP government in Punjab.
According to information referenced by India Today, Pathak has stated that he is not aware of any FIRs filed against him. He also claimed that no communication regarding these cases had been made to him by the authorities. Despite this, police action appears to be progressing, raising the possibility of further legal steps.

👉 Selective targeting of those who fall out with @AamAadmiParty
👉 Sandeep Pathak was once a trusted aide of @BhagwantMann and @ArvindKejriwal, a key power centre
👉 If he was wrong then, he was following his bosses Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann. Then…
The situation unfolds against the backdrop of a broader political shift, with multiple AAP Rajya Sabha members recently joining the BJP, significantly altering the political landscape.
The filing of these cases has added a new dimension to the political developments in Punjab, where tensions between parties have been rising. As investigations continue, the matter is expected to remain under close scrutiny, particularly given the serious nature of the allegations and their timing following Pathak’s political move.
