Mumbai: The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for an independent inquiry into the death of 22-year-old television actor Sanchita Ugale.
Ugale was found dead at her residence in Sai Santoshi Building, Achole village, Nalasopara East, on the evening of June 14. According to initial police findings, she was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom using a saree, with the room locked from inside. Family members took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police later registered an accidental death report based on a complaint by her father, Machinda Ugale.
The actor had appeared in popular television shows, including a role as Diya Tandon in Kumkum Bhagya and work in Wagle Ki Duniya. Her sudden passing has sent ripples of shock across the television industry.
In an open letter shared publicly, AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta urged the state government to launch a high-level, impartial, and transparent investigation. The association emphasized the need to examine all circumstances surrounding the case to uncover the full truth and bring clarity. Gupta appealed directly to the Chief Minister to constitute an SIT that would ensure justice for Ugale while addressing broader concerns.

Police have said they are continuing their investigation to determine the reasons behind the incident. The AICWA’s intervention reflects growing demands within the entertainment community for greater accountability and support systems to safeguard the well-being of its members.
