Ajmer: When a Rajasthan Roadways bus finally entered Kurthal and neighbouring Kerot, villagers did not simply wait for passengers to get off. They turned the arrival into a celebration.
Residents came out with flowers, drums and fireworks. An aarti was performed for the bus, while the driver and conductor were welcomed with garlands and traditional turbans. Despite the rain, people danced and gathered around the vehicle, with videos of the unusual welcome later spreading across social media.
The reason for the excitement is simple for the residents, this was not an ordinary bus service.Kurthal and Kerot, located in Bhinay tehsil of Ajmer district, have long lacked direct Rajasthan Roadways connectivity. Residents have had to depend on private vehicles and other local transport, with public bus services available several kilometres away.
That has made everyday journeys more difficult, particularly for people travelling to markets, hospitals, schools and government offices.The new service is therefore expected to make routine travel considerably easier for villagers who previously had to arrange alternative transport or travel outside the villages to catch a public bus.
Nearly 80 years after Independence
India became independent on August 15, 1947. With the new service arriving in August 2026, the development comes almost 79 years later. Reports have described it as the arrival of the first government bus in the villages in 79 years. However, a more precise description is the first direct Rajasthan Roadways bus service to reach Kurthal and Kerot.
In cities, a bus arriving at a stop is usually just part of the daily routine. In Kurthal, it became a village wide event.For residents who have spent years arranging transport or travelling several kilometres just to access public bus services, the new Roadways connection could mean easier access to education, healthcare, markets and government services.
And that explains why a simple bus ride began with flowers, drums, prayers and fireworks. For Kurthal and Kerot, this was not just a bus arriving. It was a long awaited change finally reaching their doorstep.
