Delhi – On June 10th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will overtake India’s first and longest serving PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, becoming the longest continuously serving Prime Minister post independence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was first sworn in as PM on 26th May, 2014, after the BJP’s saffron wave had surcharged the party’s historic campaign. Post that, the BJP continued to win another historic campaign in 2019, winning a whopping 303 seats.
While 2024 was a suprise for all, after the BJP could only muster 240 seats, and had to rely on their alliance with other parties to take oath and stay in power.
PM Modi took oath for the third time on 9th June 2024 to mark his tenure once again as Prime Minister. He will clock 4399 as Prime Minister, about 12 years. While their are PMs like Pandit Nehru, who served for 17 years and Indira Gandhi, who served for close to 14 years, no other leader in India’s history has enjoyed a longer continuous hold of power as PM Modi has.
In it’s 12 years of power, the BJP has taken many historic decisions like the Ram Mandir mandate in 2019 and the abolition of Article 370, standoffs like Operation Sindoor last year and putting India on the global map. While there has been progress with bigger issues, a reform of archaic policies and practices from the colonial era could be given more importance to.
