New Delhi: The Indian President Droupadi Murmu on Monday recognised several veteran soldiers of the nation for their contribution to the defence of India and felicitated them with respected high-ranking awards. Among them was the Indian Navy officer Suraj Prashar, who was awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
In the presence of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Prashar was called to the podium and was accorded the medal of courage. Alongside Suraj Prashar were other gallantry personalities who were looked up to with a sense of respect and acknowledgement for their brave acts. Lieutenant Commander Suraj Prashar was one of the soldiers in Operation Chuntawadi who, with the support of his team, managed to secure a victory over an anti-social activity. In the operation, the soldiers annihilated heavily armed terrorists in coordination with the security forces. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Chuntawadi village, a joint cordon by Prashar and the forces was launched on November 5 and 6, 2024, which led to the eradication of A++ graded foreign terrorists who posed a huge national threat. During the operation, when terrorists started attacking the troops, Prashar, with his presence of mind, performed a heroic act by eliminating the infiltrators at close proximity in a hostile position, which eventually led to the success of the operation.

One of the terrorists took shelter in a house in the village and suddenly attempted to shoot continuously at the troops’ base; that’s when Prashar’s senses arose, and he quickly defended the base while simultaneously informing the soldiers about the situation.
The Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase – I) was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was attended by the nation’s high-ranking officials. The act of Suraj Prashar went beyond the normal call of duty, demonstrating the application of his training and love for his motherland to its fullest extent. This moment is remembered as a historic war-recovery moment.
